I found this barbecue sauce completely on accident. I was watching instagram stories, and saw @whole30recipes post this recipe for blueberry barbecue sauce. I know it sounds…. strange, but it is fantastic! The combination of the blueberries and tomato paste + balsamic vinegar produces a barbecue sauce with depth, full of flavor!

As with all things I put my own unique spin on it (let’s be honest it’s because I don’t follow recipes) to produce this quite delish barbecue sauce! I have used it on grass fed, organic burgers + steak so far, and plan to try it on wings soon – hello, Super Bowl!

Whole 30 Blueberry Barbecue Sauce + Broccoli Slaw

Ingredients You’ll Need:

1 pint blueberries
1/4 c balsamic vinegar
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp cumin powder
1/2 tsp coarse salt (like celtic sea salt)

Heat a pan over med high heat, take 1 pint of blueberries dump them in and let them cook down till the juices release, stirring every minute or so, add in balsamic, tomato paste, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin powder, and salt and stir to let the flavors combine. Keep warm until serving, as a bonus, you can double this and refrigerate in a mason jar for your next meal! (makes for great leftovers)

I served it above on grass fed burgers and it was DELISH, you can also serve on ribs, steak, wings, or chicken. I’m currently thinking about how good this would be in a bibb lettuce taco with cabbage slaw, oh yum.
