If you are wondering how to protect your mental and spiritual health right now then I hope I can help speak some truth to you during this weird and uncertain time.

Mental & Spiritual Health

What’s on my heart right now is how we’re all doing mentally and spiritually through this.  A week ago, I had so much curiosity, which quickly turned into anxiety.  This was heightened when I created panic in my mind when schools here decided to stay open – luckily less than 24 hours later they made the decision to close. A month ago I was worried about things like the HOA sending me a letter about the weeds in my yard. Today I’m thinking about my kids going into a school with infected people and contracting a very serious disease. Things are changing so fast and rapidly and we must be diligent to protect our mental & spiritual health.

How to Protect Your Mental & Spiritual Health

Fear & the Immune System

Please remember, stress and fear decrease the ability of the immune system to perform at its best. This means we must take the necessary steps to relieve stress.

Here are a few ideas:

  • meditate & pray
  • go on walks
  • take a bath
  • read a book, I love audio books!
  • learn a new skill
  • play outside
  • start a new study
  • spring clean your house
  • start a gratitude journal
  • make a new recipe
  • play with your kids
  • read books with your kids
  • ask your kids something they want to learn about and research it online
  • have a zoom wine/beer/coffee date with some friends
  • take CBD oil for stress and anxiety – this is my favorite brand
Though we must isolate socially, we cannot afford to isolate emotionally and spiritually.

Focus on What is True

We can also take the time to focus on what is TRUE from Scripture:

“God, you’re my refuge.   I trust in you and I’m safe! ”That’s right—he rescues you from hidden traps,    shields you from deadly hazards. His huge outstretched arms protect you— under them, you’re perfectly safe; his arms fend off all harm. Fear nothing—not wild wolves in the night,    not flying arrows in the day, Not disease that prowls through the darkness,    not disaster that erupts at high noon. Even though others succumb all around,    drop like flies right and left,    no harm will even graze you.

You’ll stand untouched, watch it all from a distance….Yes, because God’s your refuge,  the High God your very own home, Evil can’t get close to you,    harm can’t get through the door. He ordered his angels to guard you wherever you go. If you stumble, they’ll catch you;    their job is to keep you from falling. You’ll walk unharmed among lions and snakes,  and kick young lions and serpents from the path.

Psalm 91: 1-13 MSG

Focusing on scripture like this regularly over the last few days has allowed me to calm my anxious heart and mind and protect my mental & spiritual health.

In short, focus on what you can do during this time vs what you can’t
